Education
Engineer Khaled Abubakr obtained his secondary education at the Holy Family School in Cairo, then joined the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University, “Mechanical Engineering Division.” He obtained a Master’s in Oil and Gas Company Management from the University of Montreal, Canada, and completed the “Reform and Privatization” program from Harvard University in the United States. He has a diploma in “International Financial Management of Oil and Gas” from the University of Texas.

Over the course of 38 years, Engineer Khaled Abubakr has made many diverse and successful achievements in the energy industry in Egypt. He has played a major role in development, and investment in the gas and energy sector in Egypt. As the long - standing CEO, and one of the founders of “Taqa Arabia LLC” (established as “Taqa Arabia Company”) with many regional funds and local entrepreneurs, he played a central role in making it one of the largest companies working in the field of Energy distribution in Egypt. Taqa has 24 years of experience in investing in, and operating energy and water infrastructure including the transmission and distribution of natural gas, generation and distribution of traditional and renewable energy, marketing and selling of petroleum products and oils, as well as water treatment and desalination services for all sectors. Through the company's four operating arms and its 3,400 professional employees working in 18 Egyptian governorates and more than 50 cities, Taqa now serves more than 1.7 million customers and supplies them with more than 7.5 billion cubic meters of gas, and more than 1,300 MW of contracted power capacities. Taqa operates more than 64 stations selling liquid fuel and provides water treatment and desalination services to various customers. The company also manages and operates more than 105 MW of renewable energy projects for various sectors, including a 65 MW solar power plant at the Benban Solar Park, one of the largest solar parks in the world. TAQA is also a leader in the field of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as it owns and operates more than 61 stations and 13 conversion centers spread across Egypt, and is considered the leader in the field of providing “CNG Mobile” services for the first time in Egypt to serve customers who have not yet been reached by the national gas network. The Italian President awarded the Order of the Star of Italy (Knight) Engineer Abu Bakr in recognition of his distinguished services and efforts in consolidating economic relations between Italy and Egypt.
Eastern Mediterranean market
Engineer Abubakr participated as a major investor and developer in a project to supply and transport 10 billion cubic meters annually from the Eastern Mediterranean markets to the Egyptian market, which began operations in 2020 through an offshore natural gas pipeline and was later expanded through an additional land pipeline. The project is the largest project of its kind in the eastern Mediterranean.
